The Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) has an opportunity available for a Legal Counsel. The SMA (www.sma.sk.ca) is a voluntary, member-based, professional association for physicians, medical students and residents in the province and it is the provincial chapter of the Canadian Medical Association. As the trusted voice of Saskatchewans 2,300 practising physicians, the SMA negotiates for and on behalf of our doctors; supports the educational, professional, economic and personal well-being of physicians; and advocates for a high-quality and patient-centred, health-care system.

The Legal Counsel is responsible for the provision of legal expertise and services in the practice of administrative, labour, employment, and privacy law.  The Legal Counsel provides consultation, support, and strategic guidance to the Chief Executive Officer and senior leadership team on a comprehensive range of legal and associated issues, representing SMA interests. The Legal Counsel plays a key role in identifying opportunities for improvement, developing work and process standards, and managing compliance and limiting risk exposure of the SMA.
