The Lac La Ronge Indian Band-Health Services Department is now inviting applications for 2 (two) Permanent Full Time, Wellness Workers position to assist the Prevention & Recovery Program in the community of La Ronge. This position requires living a healthy lifestyle and being familiar with Woodland Cree culture.
Duties:
Be a liaison between community members and front line workers;
Identify community members strengths and skills to teach culturally relevant materials to other community members;
Provide individual, family and group addiction counselling and assessment as well as brief intervention;
Educate youth on the harms associated with drug and alcohol use;
Provide programing for healthy living, harm reduction and recovery to participants;
Participate in community activities to promote, partner and network to further the rights and opportunities for the community members;
Provide advocacy where required;
Qualifications:
Certification in Addictions (Chemical Dependency), Mental Health & Addictions (Wellness) Certificate;
Two (2) or more years of experience in the Addictions field;
Combination of relevant education and experience is an asset;
Enjoys working with youth and Elders;
Must live in the community and have a healthy lifestyle;
Excellent verbal, written communication and public relations skills;
Ability to speak/understand Cree, and knowledge of the Cree Culture is a definite asset;
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Drivers Abstract required upon hire.
Must have a valid Class 5 drivers license.
