Settlement Worker's Role
-Welcome and assist refugee and immigrant clients with immediate and essential settlement services
-Assess settlement and integration needs of newcomers to Canada
-Assist newcomers in developing settlement plans
-Provide solution focused counselling for individuals and families as needed
-Conduct individual and group orientation/life-skills sessions
-Arrange tours of the community and its resources
-Build and maintain community partnerships with various service providers
Qualifications
-Amazing communication skills: written, verbal and non-verbal
-Well-developed interview, analytical and problem solving skills
-Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
-Experience working with culturally diverse clients
-Knowledge of and sensitivity to settlement issues and the barriers newcomers face
-Developed case management and referral skills
-Considerable knowledge of the community and its resources
-Group facilitation and public speaking skills
-Flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends
-Proficient computer skills
-Valid Driver's Licence and access to a vehicle
-Preference will be given to individuals with post secondary education in the human services field
-Fluent in English and other languages are considered and asset
