Description

The City of Moose Jaw is seeking to fill our Assistant Building Official position. Under the direction of the Director of Planning and Development Services, the Assistant Building Official is responsible for various administrative and technical duties relating to the building inspection functions of the Department.

This position will perform the following duties:
-    Provide interpretations on applications for developments and determine their compliance with the Building Bylaw as related to the National Building Code and other bylaws administered by the City.
-    Act as signing authority for the signing of building permits as requested by or in the absence of the Building Official.
-    Assume the duties of the Building Official in their absence.
-    Undertake required field inspections of buildings, properties or sites with, or at the request of, the Building Official.
-    Assist with the processing of building permits.
-    Co-ordinate, through the Manager of Planning & Business Development, with the drafting and technical staff, information required for planning and building inspection matters.

Qualified applicants will possess:
-    Class 1 Building Official license pursuant to the Building & Accessibility Standards Administration or ability to obtain within 6 months
-    Applied Science Technologist or equivalent combination of education and experience (including experience as an engineering tech).
-    1 to 3 years experience in building inspections
-    Valid Class 5 driver's license and personal vehicle available for work use
-    Working knowledge of computer software packages
-    Ability to accept responsibility, work with minimum supervision and work outside normal hours of work
