Job Description: Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Specialists ensures the Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) complies with the SK OHS Act and Regulations. OHS Specialists are responsible for the developing, coordinating, implementing and sustaining the OHS Policies and Programs for the SHR. The application of the OHS Policies & Programs is complex and variable as the OHS Specialists are responsible for providing the service to both clinical and support service employees who work in urban and rural acute care, long term care, and community care.  Must be knowledgeable in the 500 SK OHS Regulations, multiple national and provincial legislations, numerous industry standards and best practices.  Provide provide professional advice and direction to the Directors, Managers, Supervisors and Occupational Health Committees (OHCs) in the application of the SHR OHS Policies & Programs, industry standards, and the SK OHS legislation which is the foundation for the development of safe work practices and procedures and acquisition of materials to ensure employee safety.
OHS Specialists provide direction in the development and maintenance of the SHR Safety Management System, participate in the development of the corporate policies, protocols, and projects that directly impact the financial position of SHR. OHS Specialists analyze facts, statistical data and trends in the workplace and in the Healthcare industry and provide strategic direction as it relates to OHS concerns and risks that will impact SHR.  OHS Specialists have the responsibility to design, deliver and evaluate education and training relating to OHS legislation.OHS Specialists are agents for change to accomplish the strategic goals of workplace safety within the organization.
