Our ideal candidate will have dedicated experience working with children who require educational supports within enhanced ratios, as a one-on-one support educator. The successful candidate will understand and have experience with the unique challenges of working with children that require enhanced or specialized support, to foster their own ah-ha moments. The YMCA follows a specific curriculum that allows children freedom to learn at their own pace and abilities while gaining valuable skills and reach developmental milestones while playing.
Responsibilities:
- Understand and uphold Ministry of Education childcare regulations while fostering teamwork.
- Provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and explore.
- As a one-on-one support, engage the child through enhanced ratio care with the YMCAs Curriculum.
- Maintains a clean and healthy workplace according to public health and YMCA standards.
- Demonstrates a commitment to working in partnership with parents, families, stakeholders and team members.
Job Requirements:
- Early Childhood Education Level I-III an asset, but not required.
- Experience working in a structured childcare environment as a one-on-one support teacher.
- Experience working with children on the Autism spectrum.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, as a play partner.
- Physical ability to lift or assist a child (35-50lbs), multiple times throughout the day.
- Criminal Record Check (original) with vulnerable sector check dated within 3 months of hire.
- Current: Standard First Aid, CPR
The applicant is responsible for completing all mandatory training requirements for the position as per organization policy and guidelines.
