The City of Moose Jaw is seeking to fill a temporary City Horticulturalist position. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the primary duties of this position are specialized in horticulture and arboriculture with a specific focus on the planting and care of flowers, trees, shrubs and turf as well as the control of weeds, pests and diseases that affect the City.
This position will perform the following duties:
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs specific to the horticultural and arboricultural maintenance
- Assist in planting, transplanting, cultivating, and shrub, tree and flower maintenance
- Distribute public information related to weed, pest and disease control, tree care, and planting, gardening and lawn maintenance
- Physical ability and knowledge to perform a variety of manual tasks independently, such as planting, transplanting, cultivating, tending shrubs and flowers and tree and hedge pruning
- Serve as a Municipal Inspector as it relates to the provincial Forest Resources Management Act and Weed Control Act
Qualified applicants will possess:
- Enrolled in a diploma or degree from a recognized institution in the field of Horticulture, Arboriculture or Landscaping
- Knowledge of horticultural and arboricultural work including the planting and maintenance of flowers, trees, shrubs and turf, pruning, removal, bracing, stumping, planting and fertilizing
- Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's License
- Efficient interpersonal and communication skills
- Working knowledge of Windows based computer software programs
- Ability to lead, organize and direct the activities of employees and volunteers and work with minimal supervision
- Able to obtain WHMIS certification
