The Nursing staff provides competent, holistic care to clients of all ages attending treatment at Thorpe. This position supports clients recovery by maintaining the medical health of each client through the assessment, consultation, and administration of controlled, prescribed, and OTC medications.
Responsibilities and Duties
Medication:
Obtains medication history on admission and reconciles medications.
Ensure controlled medications are counted, stored and ordered from pharmacy prn.
Follows standing orders as per facility protocol.
Reports and tracks medication issues.
Medication ordering.
Ensuring medication inventory is being conducted to policy.
ECS Drug Screens and Medicals:
Complete drug screenings
Client Care
Monitors vital signs.
Provides education to clients regarding health concerns and other medical related issues.
Books doctor appointments when appropriate for clients; transfers paperwork to the appropriate doctor, and ensures follow-up appointments have been
Communicate medical information to counsellors by email or in person.
Provides referrals as necessary.
Works closely with Nurse Manager regarding concerns addressed by the client.
Documents client case notes, special permissions etc.
Other Duties
Ensure that cupboard is stocked with medication cups, first air, over-the-counter medications
Know the whereabouts of residence and clients and ensure that they follow agency guidelines.
Provides active listening and validation to clients.
Engaging clients in the application of the recreational aspect of recovery
Other assigned duties from time to time.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Basic Life Support (BLS)
High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis and/or reasoning.
Team players and also able to work independently.
Strong morals and ethics along with a commitment to staff and client confidentiality and safety.
