Limited social networks continue to be a barrier to integration between newcomers and the general public. In order to widen these social networks, the Moose Jaw Multicultural Council (MJMC) is participating with community programming to give newcomer children opportunities to interact with children in their neighbourhoods. The children will begin at MJMC with a mini-program, and end the day at their community program.
Working alongside other program staff and the Childrens Summer Program Coordinator, the Childrens Summer Program Staff will be responsible for implementing and participating in an 8-week summer program for newcomer children ages 6-12. This includes planning a morning mini-program, and providing extra support and acting as a chaperone at community programming within Moose Jaw.
Qualifications
Experience working with children in a group setting
Enthusiastic about working with newcomer children and their families
Program planning and organizing experience
Good at following instructions and taking direction
Excellent communication skills, including cross-cultural communication
Conflict resolution skills
Clear Criminal Record Check required
First Aid & CPR required
Fluency in Arabic, French, Swahili, Tigrigna considered an asset
These positions are funded by Canada Summer Jobs and so the candidates must be between the ages of 16-30
