The Ministry of Finance is responsible for oversight of government revenue, expenses, assets and liabilities. In addition to other responsibilities, Finance is the lead ministry for fiscal policy; budget development and integrity; and ensuring accountability to both the public and the Legislative Assembly for the use of public funds.
The Taxation and Intergovernmental Affairs Branch (part of the Fiscal Policy Division of the Ministry of Finance) provides public policy and budgetary analysis and advice in the areas of taxation and intergovernmental fiscal relations. The Branch is currently looking for two analysts who will be responsible for:
-Researching and analyzing information to provide policy advice to ministries, Treasury Board and Cabinet in respect of various provincial revenues, including income taxes, consumption taxes, non-renewable resource royalties, fees and charges, and federal transfers;
-monitoring levies imposed within the province and across Canada to ensure policy consistency and interjurisdictional competitiveness;
-accounting for provincial income tax revenues, which includes ensuring that revenues from the federal government are received, recorded, and properly accounted for throughout the year and at year end; and,
-represent the Ministry (or support senior representatives) at inter-ministerial and intergovernmental meetings.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be acquired through completion of a graduate degree in fields related to public administration, finance, accounting, economics, or public policy along with related experience, or through an undergraduate degree in those fields combined with several years of relevant experience.
