Description

As a non-profit organization that is responsive to both industry and community needs, Saskatoon Trades and Skills Centre (STSC) delivers short-term trades and skills training, leading to entry-level jobs where workers are in high demand.

ROLE:

The Participant Support Worker interacts closely with participants (students) and staff to support participants mental health and wellbeing. Working with individuals, they offer counselling and navigation to services in addition to skill development through the facilitation of soft/essential skills sessions to class cohorts.

This is a newly created position with the opportunity to have a significant impact on the organization for an energetic professional dedicated to providing top notch service.

DUTIES:

- Provide classroom and individual supports to course participants
- Assess participants interests, skill, abilities and readiness as they relate to obtaining and
  retaining employment and identify potential barriers in order to determine fit for STSC programs
- Provide support and facilitate skill development in areas related to obtaining and retaining
  employment such as conflict resolution strategies, workplace culture, and interview skills
- Assist with participant action plans and subsequent follow up
- Navigate to other supportive social/human services within the community
- Liaise with community service providers in order to promote STSC programs
- Maintain related records in accordance with policies and guidelines and produce reports as required
- Perform other related duties as required

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must have a Bachelors degree in Social Work
- Two+ years of applicable social work/human service experience
- Emotional stability and maturity to handle sensitive topics and information
- Ability to work positively with a wide range of individuals and cultures
- Clean vulnerable sector criminal record check
- Experience working with marginalized and/or vulnerable populations
