In 2015, Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools unveiled the St. Michael School Metis Education Model in partnership with the Central Urban Metis Federation, Inc. (CUMFI). At St. Michael, curricular content is enhanced through Metis themes, content and perspectives. Northern Michif is also highlighted through the adaptive dimension, bilingual early learning classrooms, and a core Northern Michif program. In addition to Metis learning opportunities through curriculum, students are immersed in Metis cultural learning opportunities through a Grade 6-8 Fiddle program, a jigging dance group, and collaborations with Metis Knowledge Keepers, resource people and organizations.
Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools invites applications for Northern Michif Language Teaching Opportunities with duties to commence in the fall of 2022. Placement for successful candidates available in early learning classrooms (K-2) and core Northern Michif programming.
Individuals applying for this role should possess the following:
- Eligibility for a Saskatchewan Teacher's Certificate
- Knowledge of, and participation in, a Metis community cultural context
- Northern Michif language competency and a desire to support students in their language development
