The Advocate for Children and Youth is an independent officer of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan and is non-partisan, objective and independent of the government of the day. The office engages in advocacy, investigations, and public education and undertakes research on behalf of children and youth in the Province of Saskatchewan.
Reporting to the Manager, Advocacy, this position works both independently and within a team environment to advocate on behalf of children and youth on matters brought to the office by individuals and groups or raised by the Advocate for Children and Youth on her own initiative. This position requires advocating for young people to uphold their rights; to ensure compliance with policy standards; and to assess the appropriateness and comprehensiveness of services provided to children or youth. This position also requires experience in facilitating public presentations.
These services are conducted in a timely and fair manner and in accordance with The Advocate for Children and Youth Act and with the Advocates Foundational Principles: Saskatchewan Children and Youth First Principles, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Touchstones of Hope for Indigenous Children, Youth and Families. This position takes a diplomatic and non-adversarial approach.
Based in Saskatoon, this position requires candidates to have a university degree in a related field. To qualify, you will possess the appropriate behavioural and technical skills as well as competencies commensurate with the responsibilities of this position as demonstrated in your application.
