Contribute to the conservation of a proposed UNESCO World Heritage Site!
Wanuskewin is looking for a motivated post-secondary graduate to join our team as a Resource Management Technician for a 12-month internship. The successful applicant will report to the Manager, Building & Land. The Resource Management Technician will work with a team to maintain the Opimihaw Valley and surrounding landscape, contribute to a major grasslands restoration project, and assess the ecological integrity at Wanuskewin.
Responsibilities:
Continue the study of baseline vegetation surveys and soil assessments
Inspect and record the distribution of invasive species throughout the site
Identify areas that could be targeted for prescribed burns to control invasive grasses and shrubs
Invasive species management and spread prevention
Execute the current resource management plan
Assist in developing a conservation and restoration plan for the grasslands at Wanuskewin
Work to maintain the site and surrounding landscape
Assess the ecological integrity at Wanuskewin
Ensure excellence in the stewardship of all resources
Qualifications
A certificate or degree in Environmental Sciences or related fields is required. Land management experience considered an asset. An acceptable criminal record check and driver's abstract are required prior to commencing employment.
