The Saskatchewan Research Councils (SRC) Environment and Biotech Division is seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator to join its Environmental Remediation team. SRC is remediating 37 abandoned uranium mine and mill sites located in northern Saskatchewan as part of Project CLEANS (Cleanup of Abandoned Northern Sites). The primary focus will be supporting the Senior Advisor and working with guidance from Indigenous and northern communities to ensure the continued success of Project CLEANS.
Accountabilities
Facilitate community engagement and SRCs communications with local communities
Continue building and maintaining the trust established with the Indigenous and northern communities while nurturing the existing productive relationships and networks
Work effectively within multiple Indigenous protocols and policies
Provide clear and accurate communications to multiple groups of stakeholders and rights holders
Qualifications
Knowledge of Indigenous culture
A minimum 3 years of relevant experience working with Indigenous and northern communities
Valid drivers licence
Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to listen to all parties
Ability to remain apolitical within Indigenous and northern communities
Understanding of Denesuline, Cree, Mtis and northern cultures is an asset
The chosen candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt. This position is primarily office based, but travel will be required to different locations, including remote, radiation-impacted abandoned mine sites in northern Saskatchewan.
