Do you have a passion for promoting optimal mental health and a desire to get engaged helping immigrants and refugees overcome the barriers that they struggle with as they seek for meaningful employment and make Canada their new home? In the role of Mental Health Counsellor you will be empowered to work one-on-one with immigrant women and racialized newcomers to assess and mediate their individual challenges, and to build their confidence as you help them capitalize on their unique talents.
The Mental Health counsellor/ Assistant will:
Accurately assess clients barriers and challenges in the labour market and immediate settlement and integration needs and refer them to appropriate programs and/or services within GGP and the wider community
Develop and customize client intake and assessment tools based on the assessment of local labour market and client needs
Assist in providing access to wrap around supports including childcare, transportation, mental health supports and living allowances including arranging appointments, interpretation services, and accompanying clients to appointments as needed
Organizes educational sessions focused on women's health
The ideal candidate will have:
A university degree in social work, psychology, or education is required as well as practical work in the area of counselling
A minimum of 3 years experience working in a similar role with individuals, families and groups from varying populations (racialized and immigrant populations)
Lived experience that reflects the racialized backgrounds of our clients
Strong understanding of settlement and integration barriers
Knowledge of community resources, eligibility requirements for specific services, and referral procedures
This is a flexible role that can be a full-time position for one candidate or two part-time positions split between two candidates.
