The AIM (Ability in Me) Program in Saskatoon provides innovative educational and therapy services to help individuals with Down syndrome achieve their unique potential. We believe reading is a life skill that our learners need to succeed in school and eventually the workplace. Typically, families visit AIM weekly or biweekly to receive services.
We have an opening for a Reading Teacher to introduce our learners to the joy of reading. The reading program is offered to learners ages 6-22 years. Includes individual assessment and program planning. The teacher is encouraged to connect and collaborate with the childs parents and their teachers.
The position is ideally suited for a teacher with elementary school teaching experience. We are looking for a confident, creative, and compassionate individual who loves working with children and their parents. It is an expectation that parents participate with their child in sessions and help with homework. Each teacher has their own caseload and sees children for individual instruction for 45 minute sessions with prep time for session planning/case notes/reports
As Reading Team Lead you are responsible for ensuring the reading program runs smoothly and learners are receiving quality reading instruction. At AIM teachers are integral members of our team and reading instruction is a priority in our service delivery model.
Qualifications and preferred skill sets:
Saskatchewan Professional A teaching certificate
Special Education certificate or diploma and/or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience in inclusive classrooms;
Enjoy teaching children with special needs;
Eager to share knowledge & resources with parents, childs therapists/educators;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Adept with technology; both reading software for kids and Zoom and Teams for meetings;
An advocate for children with special needs
