Job Description: The primary goal of the Addiction Counsellor - Diploma position is to restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of people seeking help for addiction and/or addiction related issues by implementing various modalities of addiction recovery programs. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Addiction Counselor - Diploma is responsible for providing informational programming as well as individual and group counseling sessions with clients. This position will be expected to assess individual and group needs of clients and implement plans to help clients reach their goals.
Required Qualifications

Valid Class 5 driver's license
Diploma in Chemical Dependency Studies; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Intermediate computer skills
Ability to communicate with and maintain an effective working relationship with clients from diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds
Knowledge of addictions screening and assessment tools and procedures
Effective oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act and other legislation relevant to the provision of Mental Health services (i.e. Family Services Act)
Leadership abilities and professional maturity to develop and maintain consulting relationships within a multidisciplinary team, interagency programs and across Mental Health and Addiction Services and the community
Knowledge of best practices in the addictions field and harm reduction strategies including the Saskatchewan Model of Recovery Services (SMRS)
Ability to make sound judgments regarding client care
Demonstrated ability to be self-directed
