Description

The Building & Yard Maintenance Operator performs a variety of duties pertaining to the general maintenance and operation of the City Operations Yards, Parks Yard, Transit buildings, garages and other locations.

Typical duties include:

-Provide day to day operation, regular maintenance, and servicing to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
-Maintain boiler systems including testing, and annual boiler layup ensuring provincial inspection guidelines and standards are met. Monitors and operates Building Management Systems.
-Responsible for all heating, cooling and humidification systems.
-Investigates, takes corrective action and/or resolves environmental issues by inspecting, calibrating, and troubleshooting HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) equipment and controls.
-Performs annual cleaning and teardowns of equipment and systems, including boiler teardown in preparation of annual inspections.
-Conducts daily/weekly preventative maintenance program including testing on boilers, furnaces, hot water heaters, HVAC systems, other mechanical equipment, and life safety equipment (alarms, fire extinguishers).
-Communicates technical information with both City trades professionals and outside contractors.
-Operates related equipment and performs inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs as necessary to ensure the equipment is kept in good operating condition, including changing oil, filters, belts etc.
