Description

The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties:
Role model healthy lifestyle and model health boundaries and ethical practice
Facilitate talking and healing circles for both inpatient and outpatient clients as well as for staff
Provide individual traditional counselling and referral for any clients who present as a higher risk
Collaborate with Elders, knowledge keepers and other traditional resource people to arrange for additional ceremonies and/or oversee the ceremonies and traditional practices;
Networking to ensure a list of ethical and credible helpers, elders, knowledge keepers, roadmen and other cultural resources for the ceremonial and traditional healing purposes.
Assist in program development and service improvement
Collaborate with staff in order to provide a client centered service delivery model
Act as an elder/cultural advisor reflective of a strong knowledge, understanding and ability to practice Indigenous traditions, ceremonies and all aspects of Indigenous culture to promote healing.

Qualifications:
Is held with high regard, respected and recognized as an elder or knowledge keeper by his/her community for the knowledge and teaching of traditional cultural practices. Ones behavior and actions must reflect these practices.
Demonstrated awareness and knowledge of all aspects of Indigenous culture and history. One must have a sound understanding of the impacts and contributing factors to addictions, mental health issues, trauma and intergenerational trauma
Must have knowledge and understanding of First Nations customs, worldview, history and traditions
Minimum of 2 years experience working in a First Nations health or treatment center environment.
Experience working with Indigenous clients is an assets
Must live a healthy lifestyle and/or maintenance of well-established recovery
Any training, courses or experience in mental health and addictions would be considered an asset.
