Description

Zagime Anishinabek is a progressive First Nations government, located around 22 KM Northeast of Grenfell Town in Saskatchewan. Zagime Anishinabek Goose Lake School serves the educational needs of less than 80 students from Prekindergarten to Grade 6 in split-grade classrooms.

SUMMARY: Under the direction and guidance of the teacher and under the general supervision of the Principal, the Special Education Assistant is responsible for assisting in the Special Education Program day-to-day activities of the classrooms and school which includes working with students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Preparing teaching materials as per teacher direction.
Assist with school functions and activities.
Assist students in the development of gross and fine motor abilities and functional life skills by demonstration, physical assistance, and manipulation.
Support students requiring additional attention and assistance according to their diverse intellectual and physical abilities.
Promote, facilitate, and model positive behaviour interventions and supports to encourage, support, reinforce, and facilitate appropriate and positive student behaviour and social interactions.
Assist individual students as determined by the special education teacher and classroom teacher.
De-escalate potentially harmful situations and assist the classroom teacher with crisis resolution and behaviour management.
Active participant in classroom management but ensure discipline is respectful and follow teachers procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Certificate in Education Assistant or Early Childhood Education; or a combination of education and experience.
First Aid / CPR Certification.
Patient, helpful, sensitive, and pleasant manner.
Knowledge of First Nation culture and traditions.
Submit a criminal record check with the vulnerable sector and a pre-employment drug test prior to employment.
