Description

The Wcihtowin Program will work on re-establishing connections as a basis for holistic and integrated services and supports. This new and innovative project will consist of an Indigenous-focused urban healing space with a primary focus on prevention and recovery supports related to mental health and addictions, through the implementation of outreach, inter sectoral services and the Wcihtowin Healing in Community Program.
THE POSITION
The Wcihtowin Mental Health Counselor, under the direction of the STC Health Centre Manager, will be primarily responsible for providing prevention, assessment, referral, counselling, and follow-up services to individuals living with mental health and addictions. The Mental Health Counselor will also provide education to individuals and groups with a focus on mental health and addiction-related topics, such as suicide prevention, substance use, anxiety, depression, etc.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-Establishes and maintains knowledge of community resources and builds strong relationships with external agencies and partners;
-Provide mental health assessments, counseling, referrals, and intervention services;
-Provide mental health counselling regarding the cause, symptoms, and prevention strategies of various mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders;
-Provide crisis intervention and outreach stabilization support;
-Provide referrals to appropriate agencies and services;
-Provide an array of outpatient mental health services to promote individualized patient recovery;
-Develop service plans and conduct reviews as needed throughout the duration of treatment;
-Act as an advocate on behalf of clients;
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
-Degree in Chemical Dependency studies or another Baccalaureate discipline (generally Social Sciences, social work, or Human Services);
-2 years Recent experience working with individuals living with mental health and addictions;
-Current CPR-HCP/BLS certification is an asset.
