Description

The City of Swift Current is seeking an individual for the position of Cashier/Payment Clerk in the Finance Department. This is a permanent full-time in-scope position. Reporting to the Manager of Revenue & Collections, the Cashier/Payment Clerk will assist the Head Cashier with his/her work, receive and process all types of payments through the cash management system, assist in other areas with the maintenance of petty cash fund, completion of service connections and disconnections, payments, provide customer service, processing incoming mail, filing and other duties as required.  

Basic Requirements:
Grade 12, and completion of some post-secondary education in finance or accounting, or a related program, or the successful completion of the Local Government Administration Certificate;
One (1) to three (3) years of experience in accounting, finance, or business related functions;
A combination of education and experience may be considered;
Excellent computer skills in window-based applications and the ability to operate computerized accounting, spreadsheet and word processing at a proficient level;
Strong customer service orientation with the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public in person and over the phone in a fast-paced environment;
Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions;
Ability to work independently and to use sound judgement when making decisions considering the Citys policies and procedures; and
Willingness to obtain a Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check as we are a Youth Certified Employer.

Desirable Requirements:
Willingness to complete further post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting and/or Local Government Administration;
Previous cashier experience; and
Previous experience with a public sector entity.
