Description

The Summer Field Representative conducts crop tours which includes scouting, monitoring, assessing and providing reports daily to the Procurement Manager. The Summer Field Representative will build strong working relationships with producers, customers, and external partners.  This position requires the intern to be a team player who provides field information and insight to the Procurement Manager, Procurement Merchant, US Procurement Group, Director of Crop Sciences, co-workers, and senior management.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Crop Scouting:

Oat crop scouting, monitoring, assessing, and reporting to the Procurement Manager on a weekly basis.
Upon request, may occasionally conduct a short scouting trip to other Provinces for other commodities, such as wheat, flax, barley and other various organic grains.
Utilizes statistics along with personal observations to assess crop conditions and accurately report current conditions along with projected potentials.
Upon completion of crop tours/scouting, the Summer Field Representative will switch to in office activities.
o Estimating yields according to guidelines and methods provided by GMI and GMCC staff and report yield potentials.
o Reports crop conditions, agronomic problems and/or potential variances to the Procurement Group

Business Development
Gains a basic understanding of technical and product knowledge, as well as an intimate knowledge of functionality of grains and oil seeds.
Updates and maintains information in our supplier and customer database.
Analyzes market trends and opportunities.
Exposure to and overview of decision process as it relates to establishing, analyzing, reviewing, and managing of purchases, sales, processing, and transportation contracts.

The ideal candidate has an Agronomic background and is pursuing a Bachelors degree in Agronomy or Agriculture.
