Reporting to the ABE & Student Services Director, the Indigenous Initiatives Coordinator is responsible to engage and collaborate with Indigenous communities and stakeholders within the region and to work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and programming staff to ensure Indigenous Initiatives are appropriately included in College policy and procedures, employment practices, planning processes, programming and events.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Engagement
- Strengthens the Colleges relations with Indigenous communities and organizations
- Represents the College to communities, stakeholders, partners and other agencies and at conferences, meetings and cultural events
- Actively participates on committees and/or projects to help raise awareness of and actively promote the Colleges Indigenous initiatives
- Liaises with Indigenous communities and agencies/services to facilitate access to community resources for the well-being of our learners
Coordination & Support
- Supports the development and implementation of a plan to integrate Indigenous culture and perspectives consistently throughout all our programs and work of the College
- In conjunction with Program Coordinators, supports the development and coordination of programming for Indigenous learners to ensure cultural components are embedded
- Proactively reaches out to all staff to advise on Indigenous culture and learning
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- The minimum educational qualification for this position is a Bachelor level degree in a field relevant to this position
- Minimum of three years related work experience, preferably in direct association with Indigenous education, programs and/or communities, as well as leading initiatives that promote inclusion, diversity, and equity
- This position is designated for qualified equity group members who self-declare as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, Inuit)
