Description

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is seeking a self-motivated, attentive and results oriented individual to fill the role of the Response Centre Coordinator for the Northern Response Area (NRA) in La Ronge.

This position oversees the day-to-day operation of the duty office, and activities including fire preparedness, emergency response events and cost recovery. They coordinate day to day fire preparedness activities within Saskatchewan and at a national level.

They will be responsible to ensure wildfire preparedness levels are established daily during the fire season, ensuring resources are adequate for expected hazards. They supervise employees, coordinate the Incident Management Team program, including training, contingency plans, and support.  They are the lead role for the export of fire staff to other jurisdictions, and the administration of the contract fire crews. They are the primary contact with industry, business, and local governments to address concerns and communicate our program.    

The successful candidate will possess in-depth knowledge in the Incident Command System, aircraft capabilities, wild land fire prevention, fire suppression techniques, and fire behavior and its effect on the ecosystem. Leadership, communication, team building, conflict resolution and problem solving, computer literacy and GIS applications are critical for success.

Working conditions include working undefined hours, in remote locations in inclement conditions, and exposure to extreme heat and smoke on site. May be required to be on call and temporarily assigned to other locations.  Must be willing to work away from the assigned headquarters for extended periods of time.

Qualifications are typically gained through the completion of a technical diploma and extensive and progressive related work experience. Must possess a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan drivers license.
