Description

Located on the Trans-Canada Highway, Swift Current is a progressive City of 18,000 people serving as the hub of Southwest Saskatchewan. The Swift Current Fire Department is a dynamic, forward-thinking department, providing Fire Suppression, Rescue Services (water, technical rope, and vehicle extrication), Dangerous Goods Response and Emergency Medical assistance to the community. We are most proud of our efforts in fire prevention. Fire Fighters provide comprehensive fire inspections, and innovative public education initiatives within our community.

The Fire Department is a composite department consisting of the Fire Chief, two Deputy Fire Chiefs, full-time fire fighters and a complement of auxiliary fire fighters. The Deputy Fire Chief of Prevention reports directly to the Fire Chief and functions as a senior member of the management team and is responsible for incident pre-planning, fire investigations, public education Initiatives, facilities, and fire prevention.

Basic Requirements:
Grade 12 education;
Level III Fire Officer (IFSAC certification Fire Officer Level II NFPA 1021);
Level II, NFPA, Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector, 1031;
Level II Fire Service Instructor;
NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator;
NFPA 921 Investigator;
ICS 300;
Emergency Scene Management;
Completion of the Canadian Emergency Preparedness College courses: Basic Emergency Management, Emergency Site Management, and Emergency Operations Center;
Approximately ten years of fire service experience including several years as an Officer; and
Several years of progressively responsible experience in Fire Department Operations combined with demonstrated ability.

Desirable Requirements:
Post-secondary education in Business Administration or Public Administration Certificate Program and/or related fire service management certificate programs.
