Job Description: The incumbent will provide clinical addiction services to a primarily adult population. While primarily an adult oriented service, as necessary and appropriate, the incumbent may provide direct services to youth as well. The primary goal of this position will be to restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of people seeking help with substance use problems by implementing various modalities of addiction recovery therapies. These services will be delivered through a combination of direct services, consultation, community resource development and education. The incumbent will work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Responsibilities include providing informational programming, as well as individual and group counselling with relevant couples, family and community members. This position will be expected to assess individual and group needs of clients and implement treatment plans to assist clients in reaching their recovery goals.
The Addiction Counsellor, Diploma reports directly to the Supervisor of Addiction Services or his/her designate.
Required Qualifications
Valid Class 5 driver's license
Chemical Dependency diploma
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
Knowledge of the development model of recovery (SMRS)
Knowledge of the transtheoretical model of change
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to demonstrate knowledge in addictions and their effects on the family unit
Knowledge of group dynamics
Ability to deliver workshops and lecture material to clients and community
Strong knowledge of mental health and addictions, as well as, addiction related issues
