Job Description: The Addictions Counsellor is a senior position responsible for supporting the coordination of admissions, clinical supervision of staff, development, providing clinical services and implementation of programs within the Concurrent Disorders Program. This position liaises, collaborates and influences other services within Mental Health and Addictions Services, other health care providers, and CBO's to build capacity and integrate treatment strategies for clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder.
The Addictions Counsellor is a competent clinical practitioner and as a skilled employee, they pursue a systematic approach to all of the areas that he/she are involved with and adheres to the current Provincial Clinical Addiction Model for practice, current evidence based practices in Concurrent Disorders treatment and SHA philosophy, objectives and standards. They must be familiar with current substance use, mental health and concurrent disorders knowledge bases, risks associated with clients who have concurrent disorders, strong leadership and presentation skills in a group context and strong individual counselling skills. The incumbent is responsible to work with the Concurrent Disorders Nurse and staff to triage acute and ongoing concurrent disorders clinical presentations with clients.
Required Qualifications
Degree in Chemical Dependency Studies, Social Work or other Human Service professions
Experience
- Two years supervised clinical experience in the addictions field including in-depth knowledge of concurrent disorders which includes one year experience working with this population.
