This is an in-scope position responsible for food preparation, cooking, baking procedures and maintaining the pantry.
MEAL PREPARATION:
-Prepare appetizing, nutritious meals as per provided menus following Canada Food Rules.
-Check and follow residents diet orders and cooperate with nursing staff to ensure that residents special diet requirements are being met.
-Prepare and cook food items for special occasions as required.
EQUIPMENT/SUPPLIES:
-Maintain a clean work area, i.e. stoves, ovens, grills, food preparation equipment, etc. and ensure kitchen is kept safe and orderly.
-Inform Director of Support Services of equipment malfunctions or breakdowns.
STOCK INVENTORY:
-Assist in maintaining adequate dietary supplies and assist Director of Support Services when supplies are low.
-Ensure that food orders are received in good condition and properly stored, labeled and dated.
-Ensure that dietary supplies are rotated and checked out to maintain the quality and proper storage of fresh foods.
-In absence of Director of Support Services, to order and distribute groceries to Group Homes.
SUPERVISION OF EMPLOYEES:
-Provide ongoing supervision of dietary aides.
OTHER:
-Be familiar with Elmwood Lodge emergency procedures.
-Be familiar with the location and use of fire equipment in the work area.
-Carry out additional duties and responsibilities as necessary and/or as directed by the Director of Support Services.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Valid Saskatchewan Journey Cook qualifications.
2.Vocational cooking course from a recognized technical institute plus a minimum 3 years institutional cooking experience.
