Description

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is seeking a self-motivated, attentive, and results-oriented individual for the position of Response Center Duty Officer.

You will be responsible for the daily supervision of Response Center support staff while working co-operatively with the Provincial Response Center and reporting fire bases. You will assemble, monitor, and adjust the daily fire preparedness plan for the area as required, ensuring available resource placements are adequate for expected short-term and mid-term wildfire hazards and danger ratings.

Working closely with the Fire Bases, this position will prioritize fire suppression resources, establish alerts, and deploy equipment for fire areas. You will also provide interpretation of weather data, fire indices, and relay required information to base staff on potential weather situations and expected fire behaviour.

The successful candidates will have knowledge of wild land fire prevention, fire suppression techniques, fire behaviour, and its effect on the ecosystem. Your leadership, communication, team building, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills and techniques, along with Microsoft Office computer literacy, are critical for success in this position.

The competencies for this position would typically be developed through successful completion of a diploma in Forest Ecosystem Technology or Integrated Resource Management and supplemented with several years of experience in wildfire suppression and management.

Working conditions are primarily in an office environment but can extend to a field environment. The candidate must be able to be on call and work shifts though weekends and long hours in some situations.
