Position Description:
The Primary Care Worker is responsible on a 24-hour basis to provide a safe/nurturing environment in a residential setting to ensure the physical, emotional, psychological, and general needs of the children residing within Poundmaker Cree Nation homes are met. The homes, Kokums House and Chapans House children/youth aged 0-18. The Primary Care Worker will ensure the care and welfare of the children by enforcing operating policies, rules & regulations and by monitoring the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. The Primary Care Worker is directly accountable to the Poundmaker Cree Nation Homes supervisor.
Qualifications:
This position requires a person: who has the ability to work alone/independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates respect for all clients and co-workers as well as their decisions and choices, who sets effective limits in performing duties, who works to empower children. Who can provide clear information, education, boundaries, safety, and cess to resources. Who knows how to care for themselves appropriately, and who is a healthy role model for children as well as the following:
-Grade 12 Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
-Certification in First Aid/CPR considered an asset.
-Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention, Administration of Medication
-Safe Food Handling Certificate also considered an asset.
-Good oral and written communication and interpersonal relation skills
-Ability to incorporate traditional First Nations teachings.
-Knowledge of holistic model of health and wellness programs, specifically the Medicine Wheel concept
-Knowledge of adolescent growth, development and behaviour, and community resources
-Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
-Must be prepared to provide a criminal records check, vulnerable persons check and child abuse index check.
-Valid insurable Saskatchewan driver's license
