Job Description: The Lactation Consultant integrates skills and knowledge from nursing theory and principles of adult learning in the provision of direct inpatient and outpatient care, clinical coordination, clinical problem solving, education and research for a defined group of patients and/or programs.  The incumbent will provide leadership that is visible, proactive and promotes the delivery of patient care through the application of practice standards.  In consultation with the Manager of Nursing, the individual is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating educational activities for clients, families and health professionals in the area of human lactation.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Nursing
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification
Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
Experience
Five years nursing experience in clincial area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to apply research to nursing practice
Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships and communication with other health care professionals
Ability to take initiative
Basic computer skills
Commitment to continued learning and professional development.
Demonstrated ability to learn new skills, show initiative, function with considerable self-reliance and demonstrate ability to use sound clinical judgement.
Integrates skills and knowledge from nursing theory and principles of adult learning in the provision of direct patient care, clinical coordination, clinical problem solving, education and research
Knowledge of the health region and community
