Description

The Town of La Ronge is a scenic lake side community offering a full range of services and amenities located in the heart of Northern Saskatchewan with a population of approximately 3,000. Visitors travel from around the globe to experience the outdoor adventures that this region offers and La Ronge is the hub of that region. The Town of La Ronge is in transition, developing a strong, inclusive and progressive culture, while growing to meet the needs of the community. Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, the incumbent will be responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing all Town motorized and non-motorized equipment and vehicles and ensuring such items are in good working order and in safe operating condition in compliance with all applicable laws, policies and regulations; ordering parts and maintaining inventory; and preparing detailed records of all servicing, repairs and safety inspections, including reporting mechanical conditions and/or deficiencies to the Manager. This position may also require the operation of heavy-duty equipment from time to time.
Qualifications for the position include: certified journeyman in the trade of heavy duty mechanics with automotive mechanic experience; valid class 3 Saskatchewan drivers license with an air brake endorsement; physically aptitude and ability to lift up to 50lbs; work in confined spaces; experience welding and minor metal fabrication; and willing to be vaccinated. Experience operating heavy equipment is considered an asset. Individuals with a Year 3 or 4 Apprentice Certification in Heavy Duty Mechanics would be considered for the position and would be paid at the Apprentice Mechanic wage rate.
