The Moose Jaw Public Library is hiring a Summer Student to help organize and run summer programming for children. This position is funded by a grant from the Canadian Space Agency and will therefore have a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) topics, including space exploration and technology.
This position requires a high level of autonomy and responsibility. We are looking for a versatile and friendly person who is passionate about science and technology. The successful candidate should be able to work with patrons of any age, background, or socio-economic status, and will be eager to learn new skills and share their knowledge with others. The candidate must be confident and outgoing and able to work with a high degree of independence to deliver programs to large groups of children.
This job is open to anyone aged 15 30 who is able to work in Canada. This position is 35 hours per week for a period of 12 weeks, and involves shift work, including evenings and weekends.
Duties/Responsibilities include:
-Designing and delivering a Young Astronaut program, including a series of astronaut themed playground programs and activities
-Providing excellent library service and programming to children and their parents in the library and out in the community
-Reporting to the Assistant Head Librarian and working closely with the staff of the Childrens department to contribute to Summer Reading Club programming and undertaking programming independently
-Creating space themed craft kits; monitoring craft supplies and restocking when necessary
-Other duties as assigned
