Description

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Services Branch, has an Agri-Environmental Specialist position available in the Weyburn Regional Office for an individual looking to be a leader in the delivery of agricultural, and agri-environmental initiatives, programming and extension services.

The Agri-Environmental Specialist will work on initiatives and projects to support the transfer of information and technology to farmers, ranchers and the agriculture industry. As the successful candidate, you will develop and deliver extension activities, provide service and information to clients, work closely with industry stakeholders, work with applied research and demonstration projects, and build public trust in agriculture related to agri-environmental issues.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of current agriculture trends and issues in Saskatchewan and Canada. You will have an understanding of native range, tame forage and riparian health management fundamentals and agri-environmental issues currently impacting the industry. In addition, you will be able to work with applied research and demonstration projects that support the environmental sustainability of the industry. You will also have the ability to plan, coordinate and facilitate meetings, events, field days and demonstrations. You will effectively interpret and communicate technical and program information related to a variety of audiences. You will support building public trust in agriculture and understand and deliver excellent client service principles.

Typically the expertise required for this position would be obtained through a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture combined with relevant leadership, program delivery and client service experience. Candidates must have the ability to be registered with the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists as defined by The Agrologists Act.
