Position Summary
***Please Note: This is a full time opportunity for up to 15 months.
The successful candidate in this position will primarily be responsible for the enforcement of zoning bylaw regulations but may also be involved in review and approval of proposed development permit applications. In fulfilling these responsibilities this position will need to provide exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders through effective communication, strong organizational skills, assertiveness, and knowledge of Zoning Bylaw regulations. This position reports to the Coordinator, Development Control Officer.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide technical advice, interpretations and administration for the general public, architects, contractors and various civic departments and other stakeholders on matters related to the effective compliance of municipal zoning bylaws and related regulations.
Initiate enforcement actions by confirming through observations and sending notices of non-compliance to property owners and preparing cases for prosecution where voluntary compliance is unable to be achieved.
Prepare responses and represent the Branch at Appeals hearings.
Review drawings and approve residential, industrial, and commercial plans to ensure compliance to zoning bylaws and regulations
Performs related work as required.

Ability to effectively execute typical duties as required.
Ability to communicate ideas and concepts effectively in oral and written form to a variety of audiences, through written reports, emails, letters, and presentations.
Ability to exercise sound judgement to enforce regulations with firmness, assertiveness, impartiality and using principles of ethical conduct.
Willingness to pursue sensitive land use enforcement issues such as illegal body rub establishments, adult entertainment establishments, or dwelling units.
