Description

Motivate, train, develop, direct and discipline machine shop staff.
Set goals and priorities based upon the needs of the production schedule.
Monitor and maintain the work-order sequence, reporting any material or parts shortages that may cause delays.
Work with machine shop staff to resolve technical issues.
Work with maintenance staff to diagnose and resolve equipment issues. This includes facilitation of external service technicians when required.  
Respond to capacity constraints by planning additional staff or overtime hours, or working with the Production and Purchasing teams to outsource machining.
Perform quality inspections on raw material, fabricated parts and outsourced parts.
Evaluate and monitor machining processes and equipment and propose and implement improvements.  In particular, continuously work to minimize equipment setup time and other non-value-added activities.
Manage and procure tool and consumable supply for the machine shop, and identify cost and time-saving opportunities through improved tooling.
Create and maintain machining setup documentation.
Continuously improve processes to minimize variation in quality and productivity rates.
Cross train with other supervisors to ensure efficient operation through absences.
Must be able to demonstrate experience with both manual and CAD/CAM programming.
Have a proven understanding of G and M code, 4th axis applications, and probing cycles
Journeyperson status and/or extensive industry experience will be considered an asset.
Sound understanding of machining practices and principles.
Strong work ethic and initiative.
Ability to work effectively in a team setting and embrace the Degelman culture.
Demonstrate strong organizational and prioritization skills.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Must understand and embrace lean manufacturing concepts.
Ability to clearly present ideas to management, peers, and suppliers.
Hours of work will be M-T 10 hour days
