The Lab Technician is responsible to the Unit Manager for meeting specific targets regarding the processing of semen within required quality standards ensuring company procedures are followed.
General Responsibilities
Preparing lab area for efficient processing of semen ensuring hygiene & cleanliness of the lab is continuous.
Ensure a sufficient amount of raw materials are readily available to process the necessary semen
requirements and report low inventory levels and equipment problems to the Unit Manager.
Ensuring processing schedules are current and that the Unit Manager is informed of any changes.
Ensuring processing practices are safe and in keeping with all the requirements expected by law,
CFIA, the manufacturer of the equipment, as well as the Companys expectations and objectives.
Ensuring accurate reporting of documentation and that record keeping in the computer is accurate.
Monitoring and setting of environmental controls for lab, semen storage area, and coolers.
Providing solutions to processing problems achieving a common goal.
Identifying and reporting any maintenance required of the equipment and building to the Unit Manager.
Assisting and/or performing any necessary repairs and preventative maintenance as well as upkeep of
buildings and grounds.
Ensuring daily and weekly work routines are performed as detailed in the procedures.
Ensuring Procedure Manuals. Biosecurity and safety is continuously followed.
Semen deliveries to barns as needed
Being self-motivated and take initiative focusing on production of high quality semen.
Reporting safety concerns to the safety representative and/or Unit Manager.
Ensuring accurate feeding and watering of the animals
Performing scheduled weekend work routines and being on call for emergency duties.
Other duties as required
Education/Experience Required
Drivers license required
High school diploma preferred
Prior experience in a hog barn preferred
