The Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Instructor position is an out-of-scope position reporting to the English Language Training Coordinator. The instructor will plan, organize and implement an instructional program of English Language Training in the classroom and to participants attending virtually. This instruction will focus on settlement, academic or work purposes for learners whose first language is not English. The position will also be responsible for the informal evaluation of learners including on-going progress assessment and short and long-term instructional planning. This position is based out of Watrous, SK.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide instruction in the English Language Training (ELT) program
- Knowledge of the PBLA approach and ability to implement it in the classroom
- Plan and implement English language instruction virtually using Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) curriculum guidelines with CLB 5 and CLB 6 students.
- Incorporate Canadian culture and settlement components into the curriculum and arrange for guest speakers and field trips.
- Manage the classroom to ensure an optimum learning environment
- Plan and deliver learning activities that reflect the values, beliefs, needs and contributions of a culturally diverse community
EDUCATION
- Bachelor of Education, English, or Adult Education degree
- Completion of CERTESL certificate or equivalent is considered an asset
EXPERIENCE
- ELT teaching and/or knowledge of different cultures or overseas experience
- Knowledge of PBLA approach
- Training or experience in adult education is considered an asset
- Work/Volunteer experience in group facilitation also an asset
