Job Description: As a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, the CMHN is accountable for the provision of screening, assessment, referral, case management, and treatment of individuals with serious and persistent mental illness in both the community and long term care (LTC) facilities. This includes persons whomay be at risk of developing disability due to mental illness and those clientsin LTC facilities who are difficult to serve due to behaviour issues. The CMHN is accountable for the provision of education aimed at prevention and early intervention services to reduce incidence and disability due to mental illness.
The CMHN will provide support and work collaboratively with staff in LTC and community services with the goal of improving quality of care and quality of life for all clients with mental illness and behavior problems.
The CMHN acts under the legislative authority of the Saskatchewan Mental Health Act and the parameters defined in that Act. He or she is guided by Heartland Regional Health Authority policies and procedures, as well as accepted nursing standards and professional ethics as outlined by the RPNAS.
Required Qualifications
Degree or Diploma from a recognized Psychiatric Nursing Program
Experience working with geriatric clients would be considered an asset
Registered or eligible for registration with the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS)
Valid Class 5 driver's license
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to conduct assessments, prioritize client needs, and develop treatment plans to meet needs regarding treatment with a client and family-centered approach to care
Ability to plan, develop and deliver educational presentations regarding mental illn
