Position Overview
The Registered Psychiatric Nurse (Addictions Specialist) is an integral part of the Holistic Health team who will provide a focus on those with problematic substance use disorder. Reporting directly to the Holistic Team Lead the position will work collaboratively with the Holistic Health team, physicians and Nurse Practitioners to provide treatment options including medication assisted treatment. The Addictions Specialist RPN will be knowledgeable in a number of treatment modalities and will complete screening and assessments, treatment plans, case management, brief interventions, and monitoring of clients in the medication assisted treatment program. This position will ensure seamless coordination of clinical planning, therapeutic activities, and client interventions.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the mental health and addictions team, physicians and nurse practitioners to support the clients who have problematic substance use concerns;
Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and protocols related to the Medication Assisted Treatment program;
Implement the Medication Assisted Treatment program for those with problematic substance use disorder as outlined in the policies, procedures and protocols of the program;
Conduct initial screenings and comprehensive addiction assessments;
Under the direction of the prescribing practitioner, provide medication administration and other medical services;
Arrange for physical assessments, lab work and other medical services as required by the Medication Assisted Treatment program protocols including referrals for inpatient treatment;
Provide therapeutic support to clients utilizing a variety of counselling modalities;
Utilize the bio-psycho-social model of care and best practices for concurrent disorders;
Maintain client charts through charting and record keeping;
Perform other related duties as required.
