The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture offers extension services and programming for farmers, ranchers and agri-businesses in the province of Saskatchewan.
The Regional Services Branch within the Ministry of Agriculture has a challenging opportunity in our Yorkton office to be a leader in the delivery of extension services and agricultural programming as an Agri-Environmental Specialist. As part of a team, the Agri-Environmental Specialist will support sustainability through the extension of information on adoption of best management practices and delivery of Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) programming.
As an Agri-Environmental Specialist, you will develop and deliver extension events and provide in-depth knowledge to farmers, ranchers, agri-business, industry stakeholders, and Indigenous communities on best management practices to address agri-environmental issues and the availability of programming.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional agrologist who has knowledge of current agriculture trends and issues in Saskatchewan and Canada. The candidate will have understanding of relevant environmental issues currently impacting the agriculture industry, as well as technical knowledge of native range, tame forage and riparian management fundamentals.
Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture combined with relevant leadership, program delivery and client service experience. Candidates must have the ability to be registered with the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists as defined by The Agrologists Act. A valid class 5 drivers licence is required.
