Description

Primary Purpose: The Communications Specialist will provide leadership in the development and implementation of innovative, effective and reliable communication strategies to advance the reputation, priorities and goals of the College of Medicine in alignment with the University of Saskatchewans integrated plan and strategic directions.  

Nature of Work: The Communications Specialist will report directly to the Manager  Administration and Finance in the College of Medicine and will work very closely with the Director of Strategic and College Communications (Advancement and Community Engagement), as a member of the universitys marketing and communications team. The specialist will be required to work collaboratively with the dean and college leadership, faculty and staff within the college and university, as well with a broad range of stakeholders who are situated in multiple sites across the province, including students, alumni, donors, government, health regions, health organizations and community partners.

The position involves considerable judgment and discretionary decision-making in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of internal and external communications initiatives that are designed to help the college achieve its goals and build positive relations and profile internally, locally, provincially, nationally and internationally. The work requires a proactive and strategic approach in a complex environment and the ability to communicate effectively to a diverse audience through a variety of methods and communication mediums. Establishing and maintaining positive relationships is essential to success. Consequence of error is significant to the College of Medicines and the universitys reputation. The position may require some travel and occasional evening and weekend work.
