Description

Living Sky School Division (LSKYSD) values diversity of culture and place as represented in its 27 schools across a wide geographical area. The division strives to ensure students feel confidence in who they are and that spaces are created so everyone feels a sense of belonging.  In LSKYSD, approximately 40% of students and staff self-declare as Indigenous. The organization acknowledges the importance of meeting the Treaty Education outcomes in curriculum and addressing the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC) Calls to Action. Effort is being made to deepen the learning experiences in the classroom with rich resources, opportunities for learning on the land and to build teacher confidence with content and approaches to learning. Mtis language retention is at a crucial point in history; building classrooms where there is purposeful inclusion of Mtis culture, history, and language is key to renewal and survival of each respectively.

Living Sky School Division is looking for a Metis Project Consultant for the 2023/2024 School Year.  This contract position is suitable for a self-directed and independent educator who can deliver the following outcomes:

Respond to the Michif Language Programming report recommendations from LSKYSD research conducted over the summer
Work with the Michif Project Team to envision a plan for the school year that includes classroom visits, programming, and educator personal development(PD)
Meet with and establish a plan for working with the early learning classes in the division
Develop and deliver programming to the schools
Develop a database of potential resources for schools to support program implementation
Build relationships with Mtis families through outreach activities or events, within and outside the school day
Identify Mtis resource people who wish to support programs in schools, including a list of fluent or silent speakersof Northern Michif
