As a shelter worker, you will be responsible for the provision of direct services, support, and safety of residents in the shelter as well as for support and referral services to Crisis Line and Business Line callers.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides care and active listening to clients, making certain they feel safe and respected;
Carries out security checks on a regular basis to maintain client safety and security, never leaving the shelter unattended;
Monitors who is in the shelter at all times;
Conducts intake with new clients, including case planning, providing hygiene essentials, and ensuring they are aware of applicable conditions of stay;
Identifies grocery needs and does shopping as needed;
Provides referral services with the client's consent;
Administers daily programming, allowing clients have the opportunity to meaningfully engage and reflect on the topic at hand;
Brings forth any suggestions to improve shelter operations;
Performs other work-related duties as assigned by Immediate Supervisor.
JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12 or equivalent;
Must have a Valid Saskatchewan Drivers License
Must be able to pass a vulnerable sector check
Ability to work shift-work
Physically able to stand for long periods of time, shovel snow, walk up and down stairs, and lift at least 50 lbs.
ASSETS:
Ability to speak Cree and/or Dene
Experience in a human services field
Knowledgeable on resources within the community & methods of access
Completed post-secondary education, preferably in Social Work, Human Justice, or another relevant human services field.
First Aid & CPR C, FoodSafe, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, Sexual Assault First Responder, and Motivational Interviewing (1&2) certificates
