Summer Student Position (Must be returning to
full-time studies in the Fall 2024)
Curatorial Assistant will primarily work with the Museum collection on various projects, including inventory, cleaning, storage, and research. The position supports the day-to-day operations, projects and special events of the Museum, as needed.
Duties can include, but are not limited to:
1) Collections management activities such as
cleaning, storing and labeling artifacts as well as photography, data entry, research, exhibit design.
2) Answering visitor inquiries on the Museums
collection and local history.
3) Assisting with the day-to-day operations,
educational activities, programs, projects and special events of the Museum.
4) Represent the Museum at events, this may
include speaking to the media and the public about the Museum and its programming.
5) General cleaning and maintenance of Museum and grounds.
6) Answering emails, phones, taking bookings and
serving as a public liaison.
Qualifications:
Required:
1) Good written and verbal communication skills.
2) Organized and detail-orientated with the
ability to follow procedures.
3) Proficient with computers;Microsoft Office,Google, Canva.
4) Ability to perform physical tasks.
5) Able to work with the public of all ages and
backgrounds.
6) Able to work independently.
7) Willing to perform repetitive tasks.
Desired:
1) Prior experience working in a museum, art
gallery or library.
2) Prior experience working with children.
3) Experience performing accurate research.
4) Post-Secondary courses completed in: Museum
Studies, History, Archaeology, Library Sciences, Education, and/or related field.
The Museum is open 6 days per week. Some weekend and evening work may be required.
