The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sports mission is to enhance economic growth and support quality of life by managing the provincial parks system and providing recreation, sport, heritage and cultural opportunities for residents and visitors. The Ministry is currently seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to work as part of a team to assist with the planning and implementation of water-based recreation in an outdoor leisure pool setting.
You are able to:
- provide lifeguard duties during public swim times by ensuring a safe swimming environment,
- by being attentive to swimmers, enforcing safety rules and educating the public about water safety in and around the water.
- be responsible for assisting with daily maintenance of pool facility, chemical testing and reporting, checking lifesaving equipment and providing input into improvements to the pool facility program.
A successful candidate will have knowledge and understanding of the principles, methods and equipment used in water-based recreation. You will know and understand the methods and techniques lifeguard procedure. The position requires knowledge of pool operations including safety, cleaning and other pool maintenance. You may also have knowledge of other water-based recreation as it relates to a park environment.
The ideal candidate will hold current certifications in the following; LSS National Lifeguard - Pool Certification. You will also hold a Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification. Other aquatic certifications such as Lifesaving Society Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Aquatic Emergency Care and Lifesaving Instructor or others are assets to the position.
