Description

Specialized Seating is a form of bracing involving the use of components on a wheelchair, which may be custom fabricated or pre-manufactured, to provide a comfortable and supportive seating position for the client. Duties include:
-Measure, fabricate, fit, adjust and repair seating devices to meet requisition requirements, client needs and instructions from technical and clinical staff.
-Operate and use department tools, materials and components for the fabrication and repair of seating appliances.
-Clean and refurbish returned equipment for reuse.
-Develop knowledge of procedures, inventory, components, materials and medical terminology used in the field.
-Attend and participate in meetings of the Selection Committee for Specialized Seating.
-Assist in the maintenance of appropriate client file and department statistical, inventory and caseload documentation.
-Support department production goals to ensure timely client service.

Qualifications:
-Minimum Grade 12 with university entrance requirements (math, sciences) preferred.
-Experience in the operation of power and hand tools including saws, grinders, drills, sewing machines, etc.
-Experience working with people experiencing disability and a wide variety of level care needs.
-Good hand skills and mechanical aptitude.
-Effective interpersonal and communication skills to work with a variety of people (clients, caregivers, therapists, other rehabilitation professionals) and to serve a diverse client base.
-Basic knowledge of tools and characteristics of materials used in a manufacturing process with ability to fabricate a finished product following measurements, drawings or instructions.
-A skills test using materials and tools common to the department will be part of the interview process.
-Final Candidates are required to provide satisfactory criminal record checks including vulnerable sector search.
