Description

In collaboration with NITHA programs and under the supervision of the Manager of Public Health, the Health Promotion Advisor provides comprehensive support in the area of health promotion for the Partnership Community Health Representatives. This involves developing strategies (including communication strategies) and supporting NITHA and Partner staff to deliver health promotion programs and services at the community level. Offers leadership, innovation, and vision in the planning and implementing initiatives aimed at supporting the NITHA Partnership in promoting healthy values and behaviors. The Health Promotion Advisor will also be responsible for planning; developing and implementing First Nations-based health promotion materials.
The ideal candidate will be an innovative professional with a thorough knowledge of First Nations community health services and programs. The essential skills, knowledge, and abilities required include the following:

An undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, particularly in the area of community development and/or health promotion and education.
Postgraduate studies in health promotion would be a definite asset.
Knowledge of the priorities affecting First Nations health.
Experience working in a First Nations organization and/or ability to speak a First Nations language is an asset.
Skilled in oral and written communication, including the use of public relations and knowledge of avenues available for the dissemination of information.
Ability to lead discussions and public address gatherings concerned with health.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Maintains a high degree of confidentiality and cultural sensitivity.
Valid Class 5 drivers license as travel is required.
